Tasmanian Pattern Championships 2016.

A good turnout on the day.

The State Championships were held at Phoenix Flyers Launceston Club on Saturday 27th February. The Roaring Forties Aeromodellers were represented by Mike Rutledge, Peter Allen & Tony Sheppard all competing in Sportsman class. Tony Gray was again unlucky with equipment issues and unable to make the event.

Contest Director, Andrew McEntyre.

Contest Director Andrew McEntyre, defied the weather forecast, called “go” for the event and gave us an excellent flying day. Great stuff Andrew, you are “The Man”

Tony S. with his BJ Craft Fantasista 70.

Pleased to report that all RFAM pilots completed the four rounds with very few problems. Tony S did land on the dreaded edge of the strip and dislodged an undercart leg on the electric Fantasista, however minor repairs only required.

Steve Barrow receiving his trophy.

Deserving winner in Sportsman was Stephen Barrow flying his electric Wind S with precision. Steve has only recently returned to Tasmania after spending time with the Greensborough Club in Victoria and he will be a welcome addition to the Tasmanian aerobatic scene.

Mike with his Extra 300.

Mike R flew his new electric Extra 300 consistently all day to finish in 2nd place in Sportsman. Congratulations Mike, well done! 3rd place went to Dave Cook (PFL) closely followed by Peter Allen & Tony S. Interestingly Pete’s YS powered Venus 2 was the only IC powered model in Sportsman.

Ben Goode flew well to take out the advanced class.

The Advanced class winner was Ben Goode who has only recently been promoted from the Sportsman class. Well done Ben. Terry Pearson finished in 2nd place flying smooth and fast with his Hanno 60 powered Kryptonite model. 3rd place to Andrew McEntyre flying an electric Wind S. Andrew is steadily improving after a return to competition flying.

Steve Reece

Steve Cochrane

The two Steve’s (Reece & Cochrane) competed in Expert, both showing their class with Steve Reece taking the top spot and also earning a promotion point. Well done Steve.

Andrew presenting Scott with his F3A trophy.

Scott Kay completed the field with a win in F3A. Scott’s flying, flight preparation is an example to all. Brilliant work Scott!

Steve, Scott, Mike and Peter taking a turn at judging.
Special thanks to CD Andrew McEntyre, Darrel for the BBQ, Tina for the scores and of course the Judges, another excellent event which was enjoyed by all.
